ARTIST ALOUD AWARDS ARE BACK FOR THE THIRD TIME

Temperatures will soar this summer with the hottest music awards in the digital medium.Third time in a row; the Artist Aloud awards honor independent music. Artist Aloud- a digital medium that has provided a platform for both iconic and budding independent musicians and artists to showcase their talent is back yet again with the well-known music awards. With these awards, Artist Aloud looks to honor independent music and thus enable indie music artists to gain the recognition they truly deserve.

Starting 6^thMay 2013, the awards will run for a period of 7 weeks including 6 weeks of nomination based voting and 1 week of Top 5 under Best Song, Best Male, Best Female and Best Group on the Artist Aloud Web, WAP and SMS through keywords. This year around, the platform provided opportunities to a larger pool of indie artists and their unique music. The voting process remains the same as last time, wherein each week users vote for their favorite artist under a given genre of music for that week. All independent music singles and albums released on Artist Aloud from January to December 2012, qualify to be a part of the awards.

The six music genres of the award format that include Pop, Rock, Alternative, Global, Fusion and Mixed bag will witness crowning of the best of the best. Users will be able to vote online on www.artistaloud.com as well as on their mobile phones by logging onto the WAP site – artistaloud.com

Here at Bollyspice, we like to shine the light on not only Bollywood, but also other fabulous content outside the world of Hindi films including movies, cool music and songs we come across! You probably know the fab Bollywood journalist and interviewer Faridoon Shahryar, but did you also know he was a singer? Yes, he is a formally trained singer in Hindustani Classical music and in his singing avatar; Mr. Shahryar has recently released the wonderful ‘Palkon Ko Bhigoyen Kaise’ with music by Navneet Kedar.

Talking to us about his music, Mr. Shahryar says, “Palkon Ko Bhigoyen Kaise is the name of my Ghazal Rock album launched by premiere online music portal artistaloud.com. It comprises of five songs.”

One of the coolest things is that that lyrics are ghazals and poems that have been written by his late father Professor Shahryar, winner of the highest literary honour in India the Jnanpith Award and the lyricist of actress Rekha’s magnum opus Umrao Jaan.

He most recently released the video for the gorgeous title track ‘Palkon Ko Bhigoyen Kaise’

Directed by his wife Aarefa Faridoon, the video for ‘Palkon Ko Bhigoyen Kaise’ was shot in several locations including Tokyo, Sarawak (Malaysia) and Mumbai.

The response to the music and his singing has been fabulous. GiMA 2013 CALLS FOR ENTRIES FOR THE 4TH EDITION OF THE PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS

The Global Indian Music Academy (GiMA) Awards, the most credible platform for the recognition and felicitation of Indian musicians, is all set to kick off its 4^th edition as it invites musicians and music professionals to send their entries. GiMA provides a cohesive platform to celebrate and recognise those who push the boundaries of Indian Music, across a wide range of film and non-film music genres. Entries will close on 10^th May, 2013

This year GiMA has added three new categories, making it a total of 13 awards in the Non-Film music categories and 11 awards for Film music. For film music, there is a new award for the Best Duet whereas for non-film there will be two new awards, one for Best Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Track and an award for Best Indie Song, in an initiative to reflect the new genres of music.

Speaking on the occasion, A.R Rahman said “It’s imperative for Indian musicians to have a credible platform to showcase their talent to the world. GiMA serves as one of these ideal vehicles for the Indian music fraternity and I applaud them. The Awards is truly a great initiative as they seek to bring recognition and respect to the musicians of our country.”

The Voting process is very stringent and is closely monitored by KPMG, the official process auditors for the awards. Nominees are selected by an eminent jury panel of over 30 members. The Academy which comprises over 300 members from the music and film industry then vote for the final winners in a secret ballot process. The Academy’s votes are tabulated by KPMG to determine the winners. The entire voting process is based on peer-to-peer recognition making it a highly credible process.

The Advisory board and Jury consists of some of the most prolific names of the Indian music industry including Javed Akhtar, Dr L Subramanium, Pt Shivkumar Sharma, Prasoon Joshi, Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani, Loy Mendonsa, Hariharan, Sunil Lulla, Vishal Bhardwaj, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Mukesh Bhatt, Kailash Kher, Lesle Lewis, Vijay Lazarus, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Bhushan Kumar, Shridhar Subramaniam, Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant to name a few.

Commenting on the Awards, Sonu Nigam said “GiMA is a pioneering attempt to bring together the entire music industry on one illustrious platform to honor artistes & musicians. I am personally eager to see the nominations in the non-film categories as it really opens up opportunities for musicians who work outside of the film industry.”

Rabindro Sangeet has been performed, re-done by many but none have restyled it like TAGORE TRANCE – is a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his 151^st birth anniversary by Sutirtho, a singer composer from Bangalore, India and Jacques Twiziman Bo a Rapper from Rwanda , East Africa. Since then the band has constantly been touring and performing all over the country, and have released their debut full-length album, From Space, a re-interpretation covers Ep titled “Sheep” and our coming out with their 2nd album “Bats” in 2013.
