The Global Indian Music Academy (GiMA) Awards, the most credible platform for the recognition and felicitation of Indian musicians, is all set to kick off its 4th edition as it invites musicians and music professionals to send their entries. GiMA provides a cohesive platform to celebrate and recognise those who push the boundaries of Indian Music, across a wide range of film and non-film music genres. Entries will close on 10th May, 2013

This year GiMA has added three new categories, making it a total of 13 awards in the Non-Film music categories and 11 awards for Film music. For film music, there is a new award for the Best Duet whereas for non-film there will be two new awards, one for Best Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Track and an award for Best Indie Song, in an initiative to reflect the new genres of music.

Speaking on the occasion, A.R Rahman said “It’s imperative for Indian musicians to have a credible platform to showcase their talent to the world. GiMA serves as one of  these  ideal vehicles  for the Indian music fraternity and I applaud them.  The Awards is truly a great initiative as they seek to bring recognition and respect to the musicians of our country.”

The Voting process is very stringent and is closely monitored by KPMG,  the official process auditors for the awards. Nominees are selected by an eminent jury panel of over 30 members.  The Academy which comprises over 300 members from the music and film industry then vote for the final winners in a secret ballot process. The Academy’s votes are tabulated by KPMG to determine the winners.  The entire voting process is based on peer-to-peer recognition making it a highly credible process.

The Advisory board and Jury consists of some of the most prolific names of the Indian music industry including Javed Akhtar, Dr L Subramanium, Pt Shivkumar Sharma, Prasoon Joshi,  Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani, Loy Mendonsa, Hariharan,  Sunil Lulla, Vishal Bhardwaj, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Mukesh Bhatt, Kailash Kher, Lesle Lewis, Vijay Lazarus, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Bhushan Kumar, Shridhar Subramaniam, Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant to name a few.
