Shwetha Subram joins hands with The Piano Guys for Khushnuma

Image

Fusion – a blend of the east and west! It’s not just a word but an amalgamation of cultures and unites the diversified forms of art. Shwetha Subram who recently joined hands with The Piano Guys for Khushnuma is a perfect example of this.

Born in Dubai UAE, Shwetha who was always rooted to her culture, pursued Carnatic singing despite the fact that in the contemporary generation, kids have been switching to various forms of western music.  She gained popularity after she won North American Best Singer Award from the group which discovered some of the most prominent vocalists of India, such as Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan and others.

While her career in singing had taken a leap after the victory, the singer had not just started launching her singles but also took up playback singing.  She even won Shankar Mahadevan’s global singing competition.

And now, she has collaborated with The Piano Guys for Khushnuma. Steve, one of the member of Piano Guys said, “Shweta immediately stood out to us – her smile was so genuine and contagious. She naturally emitted such amiability in her stage presence that we were drawn to her performance. Her voice effortlessly depicted an Indian classical vibe while still being completely accessible.”

At the same time Shwetha was thrilled to be a part of this, “The guys were easy going and open to experimenting with new ideas. We had a fantastic time recording the song and shooting the video – it felt more like a party than work. These guys are extremely talented and it’s an honour to be chosen for this project,” she said in an interview.

Khushnuma is an adaptation of ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ by Swedish House Mafia. Also the music created has been a blend of Indian traditional music and western beats.

Amar Gopal Bose – Revolutionary in Sound Technology

While Indians were often under the belief that it is only a foreign land that could make effective electronics and automobiles, here is a man who redefined sound technology in India. Popular as a brand for the best sound gadgets like speakers and Bluetooth speakers, founder of Bose, Amar Gopal Bose passed away recently due to natural causes.

Born in 1930, in Philadelphia, Bose was always fascinated with electronics. While he migrated to Kolkatta, as a kid he tried to keep his interest even amidst acute poverty, he later got involved in making sound systems. He started off with high power amplifiers as Bose Corp’s first products in 1964 and now Bose subsidiaries and manufacturing units are found all over the globe. The Wave Music System remains to be one of his best products.

Bose also was a professor with MIT faculty for electrical engineering and computer science and taught acoustics to thesis students. He also had other hobbies like swimming and badminton.

While he was hailed for his intelligence and genius inventions, he was also treated with respect and honour as a human being. “Amar Bose was an exceptional human being and an extraordinarily gifted leader. This proud MIT graduate, professor and innovator was a true giant who over decades enriched the Institute he loved with his energy, dedication, motivation and wisdom. I have never known anyone like him. I will miss him. MIT will miss him. The world will miss him,” said MIT President L Rafael Reif.

World’s famous people and citizens from all over the world took on twitter after the death of this sound genius. “Sometimes you have to move backward to get a step forward – Amar Gopal Bose” tweeted popular producer Pritish Nandy and world’s most renowned host Oprah Winfrey.

Master of Quiz Siddharth Basu expressed his grievance over the loss of this genius by tweeting, “Amar Gopal Bose, pioneer of psychoaccoustics, and byword for excellence in sound systems, no more.”

Being an icon to many aspiring entrepreneurs and engineers, this man who revolutionized sound into smaller packages, will always be remembered for setting an example to those who believe that ‘dreams are meant to be seen with open eyes.’

Raju Rao, a blind musician makes music come alive

Who says dreams can’t come true? Following the adage ‘Pursue your passion no matter what it takes’,  a small time musician Raju Rao seems to have set an example for the ones who fail to have faith in faith. This Bhopal based artist believes nothing can come in the way of  his relation with music.

Despite his visual impairment, he still creates music with as much devotion by placing one hand on the synthesizer and the other on a keyboard.  “I used to waste a lot of time going to and coming from studios. One day my wife said, ‘Don’t worry about the money. Let’s create a studio today.’ After that there was no turning back,” said Rao to a leading daily.  While this musician has a created a home music studio to suit his needs, he never misses marriages or events where he solely gives out an enthralling performance. Apart from being an independent musician, he also accompanies music stars for events and stage performances.

Talking about his childhood, Rao said that he learnt guitar during those days.  When a Priest named Franklin Rodriques invited him to play guitar in a church near Bhopal, he readily agreed and later, settled in the same city in 1998 after his marriage with Pramila.  While he continued playing guitar, he added another feather to his cap by singing ghazal and sufi music after he gained confidence to do it, through a reality show. Not ending at that, he has performed with some renowned artists like Ghulam Ali, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Anuradha Paudwal among others.

“My wife asked why I don’t start writing songs. So I started doing lyrics, too.” The multi talented independent musician also started penning down his thoughts but his blindness was never an obstacle.

For a man who is on a mission and is out there fulfilling his passion, loosing his ability to see may be a big drawback. But not pondering over his weakness too much, this artist created independent music, without any inhibitions. And like we always say, ‘Music is not created by the mind but felt by the heart
