Atariya –

Artist Thumbs 1500 -Retro Inc

In merging two talents from West Bengal – vocalist Chandrayee Bhattacharya, who is trained in Hindustani semi-classical and ghazals, and guitarist Nilanjan Samadder – who call themselves, the duo provides an appropriate glimpse of their combined talent on the soft, simple arrangements of “Atariya”. Nilanjan’s acoustic guitar on the jazz tinged song is effectively supported by the excellence of Chandrayee’s singing, which is a heartfelt, honest offering that is certainly well worth listening. “Atariya”, on its first listening, may sound disjointed – my belief is that the drum was not really required – but, then, are obviously not looking at immediacy, but more towards introspection and subtlety, requiring at least several listens in order to be fully appreciated.
