Manzil Tu Hi – Shashika Mooruth

South African singer Shashika Mooruth has her musical career firmly entrenched in India having studied Hindustani Classical at Mumbai’s Bharathi Vidya Bhavan under the tutelage of Pandit Sudhindra Bhaumik under whom she continues to learn. However, this child prodigy – after all, she began performing live at age seven – appears to be a versatile vocal talent but, here on “Manzil Tu Hi”, she indulges in the very obvious devotional space. Her very clear voice receives an opportunity of showcasing itself on this fabulous Rajeev Mahavir composition which provides a very ethnic feel supported by live instrumentation. “Manzil Tu Hi” is surprisingly accessible and captivating. Try not to sway and clap in rhythm. Bet you can’t!
