Rang Rangiyan – Shirin Charania
Yavatmal-born Shirin Charania is a late bloomer, if you can call her as such, considering that her bio speaks of her breaking out from “13 years of marriage and family life” to make singing into her career. In doing so, Shirin has taken a song that is replete with multiple-genres – ranging from rap to rock rhythms with bhangra as the underlying theme – that has resulted in “Rang Rangiyan”. Shirin sings with a precise, spoken phrasing that provides the lyrics just the right amount of playfulness that the song demands. ‘Rang Rangiyan’ may be a light weight song, but nothing changes the fact that it is pleasing to the ears and, if you want to step into – let’s say, a Christmas – party, it fits well onto the festive dance floor too.
