Fagun Ahise Notun Ronge – Angshuman Pol Deka

Based in Guwahati, multi-talented artiste Angshuman Pol Deka  has apparently been performing since age five, initially learning harmonium and tabla, before expectedly taking a journey into reality-based programmes such as ‘Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa’ and ‘The Voice’. However, Angshuman’s journey to find his true vocation continues with “Fagun Ahise Notun Ronge”, an Assamese romantic track, featuring lyrics co-authored by him with Barnali Chanda, and music provided by Rajib Hazarika. The result on “Fagun Ahise Notun Ronge” is pleasantly and inoffensively melodic, with welcome yet limited interludes from piano and from guitar on a softer and friendlier landscape that appears to augur just fine for Angshuman Pol Deka as he plays safe by remaining well within his comfort zone.

Xuworoni – Prarthana Choudhury

Guwahati-born Prarthana Choudhury has been a singer since childhood, including being trained by the late Pandit Karuna Shankar Thakuria, and her past is now a present for her future, as can be gauged on ‘Xuworoni’, an EP consisting of three tracks. “Aamar Gaor” is an easy listening, mid-tempo song; “Ejaak Moloya” has more of an Indian classical dab with tabla as its key instrumentation; but the pick of the lot is “Tumi Bujanu Kiman” [composed by Anuraag Saikia with Bishnujyoti Handique’s lyrics], a well-constructed lullaby. While there is no doubt that there are multiple talents that have supported the project, but it is Prarthana, with her precise voice and clear diction, who really shines on this fine product.
