Sisterhood – Geetu Hinduja

geetu-hinduja-sisterhood

Recorded in celebration of Woman’s Day last year, “Sisterhood” receives a timely re-release in 2017 as it speaks about women bonding through camaraderie, nurturing, fostering, compassion, and empathy, not only towards each other, but to humanity too. Credit for this journey goes to vocalist/guitarist Geetu Hinduja, who has trained formally in Indian classical music and jazz, and has composed the acoustic-flavoured “Sisterhood” in conjunction with singer-songwriter Kelli Eagan from Boston, and guitarist Alisha Pais from Mumbai. Geetu’s supporting cast includes six other talented women who, besides Alisha, include: Vasuda Sharma [ukulele/vocals], Vivienne Pocha [vocals], Mynah Marie [accordion], Shubhangi Joshi [vocals], Naama Choonawala [drums], and Nandini Shankar [violin]. Credit to Vasuda for her musical arrangements that feature a fine display of violin playing and the usage of the virtually rendered obsolete accordion [barring those performers still passionate about Zydeco/Cajun music]. Indeed, even the musical side of “Sisterhood” is a revelation.
